Choosing Happy

"Life is like a piano... the white keys represent happiness and the black show sadness. As you go through life's journey, remember that the black keys also create music."
A lot of times in life I think we simply forget to be happy. The things that happen in our lives certainly effect our emotions and our state of being but ultimately happiness is a choice we make. In the saddest of all events, our most embarrassing moments, and the scariest places we could imagine happiness is a choice. Think about it... No matter how long it takes you to overcome something you still eventually have to make a choice to move forward and be happy.

The worst times of our lives can often be the greatest of blessings once we overcome them. :) Sadness often becomes strength, anger allows us to see ourselves at our worst and gives a place to turn from, and the scariest things we encounter make us brave.

Even if they haven't been terrible or life changing... think of the worst moments in your life.. times when you lost, times when you had no idea what would come next, times when you didn't know how to move on... and then think of where you are now. What made that difference? Blessings tend to flow at the moments we need them most and often an abundance of them... even if at first they come in disguise.

Give it time. Pray. Listen to the people who want to help you and let them help you. Don't be afraid to let someone do something nice for you. Ask for help. Never feel guilty for being on the receiving end of kindness. Choose happy. Move on. Don't give up. Let yourself cry. Lean on a friend. Wait on the Lord. Live richly. Love greatly. Let go. BE HAPPY.

because regardless of how seemingly hard our lives are.. we all have so much to be thankful for.

Humbling Myself

I've never been one to make New Year's resolutions. I like the concept though, of determining to make a positive change in your life.. even if you don't pick January 1st as your "turn around day".

I feel that in our lives we should make the effort to better ourselves every chance we get... in everything. Success is measured in so many ways by lots of different types of people. Some want more power, more money, more stuff... and often those people will stop at nothing to get everything that they think they need. Often tho, in getting all of those things they find they are still missing out on what really makes them happy.

As I reflected this year on what I could do personally in my life that would make me "better" there were a number of things that crossed my mind. Some more trivial, others bigger.. but all of them mean something to me one way or another. Lots of people get crazy with cleaning, wanting to purge their lives of clutter, others rush to the packed gyms on January first and "commit" to exercise and dieting, some vow to spend less time working and or wasting time and more time being with family.. we've heard them all. There is something to be said for all of these things, and they are all good things to think about..(and all things that I could work on in my life!) ... but as I listed things I started to realize that the more I listed that none of the things on my list were the most important.

The number one thing that I want to work to change in my life is making sure that I am spending quality time with God.

I'm off to a pretty good start... and I plan to do my best to stay as focused as possible in doing so. The truth is.. you can make a million changes in your life, but unless you make this one you are still missing something. I'm sure that some of you who are reading this aren't believers.. and I want to point out that I don't mean to tell you how to live your life... I want to SHOW you what a difference it's made in mine!

...And as for those of you who find yourself reading this and smiling...
1. Ask me.
2. Keep me on my toes.
3. Pray with me
& for me.. (as I do for you)

I think all of us can do a little better, at any given time... It's never too late to start changing for the better! I want THIS resolution to be the one that I not only focus on this year, but work to build on each and every year. :)

2013 :)

Happy New Year to all of you! :D

I've got lots of holiday postings to make & I will get them out ASAP.
I hope that all of you have had a wonderful holiday season with all those you love!
Our holiday season has been wonderful! I am SO GRATEFUL for all of the wonderful people in my life.

I've found that as you get older holidays become somewhat less exciting. As an adult you no longer have the eagerness of waiting for Santa and almost all of us look at the holiday preparations laid before us and think "how will we ever get this done!?!" when suddenly we realize that all of the Christmas hoop-la doesn't happen without lots of buying, wrapping and work. It can easily be overwhelming..

The spirit of Christmas tho, and all other holidays is remembering the little things. It's important to take note of the small gestures not just grandiose gifts and spectacular decorations. Those things are nice... (personally, I love them!) but they are never the most important thing.
Our families and friends and the time to cherish them, hope, the childlike wonder, the belief in even a small bit of magic, generosity, joy and most of all love are what really makes a holiday special.
Here's some little pieces of our holiday!! :)

As you start your new year remember what is most important in your life... in fact, take note of WHAT THAT IS and if you need to, change it! :) Life is too short to wait... this may be the only time you have. Keep that in mind and let it be a blessing to you, your life and those you love! :)
