Chore Chart

I made this chart for our apartment and it has proven to be pretty handy so far!

All of the chores are velcro tabs and as they are completed for the day, week or month they are pulled off and put in the baggie. :)

Your chores may vary household to household but the format could be very similar. I color coded the chores with each category so that they can be easily replaced for the next use.

This is very helpful for communicating to everyone easily about what has been done and what still needs to be done around the house! :)

Put your Ipod on Shuffle..
Comment your favorite line from the first 5 songs that play! :)
(Make sure to list the title & artist)

Here's mine..

1. 'Woke Up In Love'- Exile
"Woke up in love with you
Oh, what a beautiful day
Am I still dreaming
Is it supposed to feel this way
Running around with a foolish grin
Painted all over my face
Woke up in love with you
Oh, what a beautiful day"

2. 'The Dance' -Garth Brooks
 "Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have chanced it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance"

3.'Inconsolable' - Backstreet Boys
"I don't want to be like this,
I just want to let you know,
Everything that I'm holding,
Is everything I can't let go, can't let go.

Baby I don't want to waste another day
Keeping it inside it's killing me
Cause all I ever want, it comes right down to you
I'm wishing I could find the words to say
Baby I would tell you every time you leave
I'm inconsolable"

4. 'Come Back Down'- Lifehouse
"When you come back down
If you land on your feet
I hope you find a way to make it back to me
When you come around
I'll be there for you
Don't have to be alone with what you're going through"

5. 'From Me To You- The Beatles
"I got arms that long to hold you
And keep you by my side.
I got lips that long to kiss you
And keep you satisfied, oooh.
If there's anything that you want,
If there's anything I can do,
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you.
To you, to you, to you."

Finding The One

Several times before I've been asked about the way in which a person knows that they have found "the one". You know.. that person that "completes you", "the one you've always been looking for".. the "spark".... But the question often begs.. what does that really feel like?

I'm of the persuasion that no one can easily define that moment because when we are really honest about it, true love is not about that one special moment. Love.. true love is about SO MUCH MORE.
I wouldn't ever claim to be an expert on the subject of love in any way.. but I can share with you the things that I HAVE learned to be true.

1. Don't look for someone that you will never fight with.- In a close knit relationship of two people fighting WILL occur. It comes from the way we are made.. each of us different from another, a man different from a woman. It's impossible for any two people to agree on absolutely everything. It's not realistic. I believe that more importantly then agreeing on everything the focus should be placed on how the other person responds to those differences and disagreements. Respect for how you feel and in what way you respond to a difference speaks volumes compared to blindly agreeing for the sake of "keeping the peace". Wishing for someone you will never cry over is both naive and unrealistic... when you care deeply about a person you will likely be moved to tears on more then one occasion.. The person you love the most can hurt you more then most and occasionally those things will happen. The goal is moving past that and becoming stronger together because of it.

2. Pay attention to how someone interacts with others. It's been said that the true measure of a person can be seen by how well they treat someone who can do them absolutely no good and I find that to be true. How do they interact with a waitress or someone who provides them a service otherwise.. how about towards that passing stranger that they have a bit of contact with? In relationships we tend to put our best foot forward.. we show only the very best of ourselves in order to look good and be liked.. but in reality there are hidden things about ourselves under the surface that we aren't allowing others to see right away. We all have those things about us... big or small.. and it's important to learn those things about each other before taking a bigger step. You will never know everything about a person.. it's always a learning process, but how a person treats others is often a better indicator of their true self then how they treat the person they are trying to impress (In this case.. you).

3. Don't assume their won't be others you're attracted to. Loving someone.. truly loving someone is a choice. It's true that we can't necessarily help who we fall for but who we choose to love is another thing all together. There will be other people who you find attractive and interesting.. people who in a different situation you may have pursued a relationship with but loving someone is about making the choice to, above all, love and be with the person you are with. If you allow yourself to be distracted by other things and lose focus on your relationship.. you will. If you don't put time into your relationship and make the choice to remain committed to that person then undoubtedly your relationship will have issues. The beauty of loving someone is that although either of you could likely be with someone else.. or be happy in another relationship you have both committed to being happy with each other. You choose to love... so ask yourself... can you make that choice with this person every day? ..and can they make that choice for you?

4. Don't be distracted by infatuation. Falling in love is wonderful.. No one can deny that. But love.. real love goes beyond that. I don't know who said it... but I love this quote.. "Love is not breathtaking, it's not excitement.. That's just being in love, which any of us can convince ourselves that we are. Love is what's leftover after 'being in love' has faded away." Infatuation blinds us makes us think that everything about a person is perfect.. That's NEVER true.

5. Look for someone who gives freely without the promise of return. In relationships you will always have ups and downs, not only as a couple but as individuals. You will have days where you can't give a drop of yourself.. and so will the person you are with. We all need to have people on our lives who will do what we need without being asked... without knowing that the favor will be returned. I'm reminded of the lyrics of the song by "The Band Perry"... 'Would you walk to the edge of the ocean.. just to fill my jar with sand.. Just in case I get the notion to let it run through my hands?' There is something beautiful about doing something for someone purely because you know the other person appreciates it. There's no lasting effect of bringing your girlfriend a jar of sand.. especially if she just spills it through her fingers.. but the point is that it makes her happy. It doesn't have to make sense to you in any way.. it's doing it because you know the happiness it will bring. Go out of your way for the person you love and see that they do the same for you. Those kinds of things make love last.

There's more to be said.. I'm sure of it.. but these are my "two cents". What are your tips? Love is learning.. love takes time and it costs a lot. Love needs encouragement from within and from the outside.. I believe that the best couples have amazing support systems both found in each other and the people around them... so what helps you? I'd love your input! :)

Got Milk Ads

Call me lame if you want to... but I loved the "Got Milk?" ads! :P I used to have a collection of them that I'd saved from magazines and some of them hung on the walls of my high school bedroom. Typically I am NOT the kind of person who collects anything.. (See my post.. 10 Not So Normal Things About Me) but for whatever reason that was something I did collect for a long time.

When I moved away from home I decided to dispose of the huge collection of them that I had held on to for the past several years and after I did so I always wished I'd kept them...

Recently it dawned on me that I could probablly find most of them online... and so my search began.. (I know... I'm lame)... As a result.. I'm here to share my "GOT MILK?" Pinterest board. :P

HAHA... hope you enjoy the flashbacks as much as I did... ;)

Happy Mother's Day

For many years Mother's Day has been a difficult day for me.. When your Mom is gone it's hard to know how to spend the day... or who to spend it with but we always somehow managed to figure it out. When you lose your Mother the value of having a Mother suddenly seems so much more clear. As I grew up I watched friends go through the common mother-daughter battles that a lot of people have, especially in teenage years.. They of course hated it.. but on the outside looking in I always wished I could have those moments.

I know my sister and I were lucky.. we had some good years with the Mother of our own and after she passed we had a number of beautiful women who were always there for us. :) All of those people who helped us grow into the women we now are made a huge impact on us and on our lives. Not many people have the privilege of all those "extra mothers" and I know now that it was a blessing.

Reflecting on my own Mother and all those amazing women.. I share these thoughts... To all those who were there for us, who taught us and helped us grow.. Happy Mothers Day!!

7 Reasons Why I Love Harry Potter

If you know me at all you probably know that I LOVE Harry Potter.. I love both the books and the movies but the books are SO.MUCH.BETTER. If you haven't read them.. you should take the time to read them..

Here are just a few reasons why I love Harry Potter..

#1- The Tale of the Three Brothers. (It's a great read.. check it out...
The Tale of the three Brothers is what J.K. Rowling wrote in as a childhood fairy tale that turned out to be more real then anyone realized. It has an amazing "moral of the story" effect and it's a great reminder that we shouldn't try to fight what is simply meant to happen.
#2- J.K. Rowling is a very wise woman.. Whether in the books or not she has lots of thought provoking and motivating things to say.. :)

#4- Harry Potter is by far one of the most thoroughly connected books I have ever read. Many numbers and themes run throughout the series and I find it amazing that J.K. Rowling was able to keep these "threads" alive throughout all 7 books. :)

#5- This AMAZING story!!!!!! :)

#6- Because seriously... who wouldn't want to marry into this family.. :P

#7- Because J.K. Rowling understands this... :)

Six Ways To Be A Good Friend To Me.. :)

Everyone has those things that make a person go from their friend to a close friend of best friend. Most people can relate to lots of people and be generally friendly with many more but everyone comes across those things that "seal the deal" in relationships... I've been thinking a lot lately about what my best friends and the people that I am close to have that makes us click.. and here's the list I came up with.. :)

1. The ability to make me laugh.
It doesn't have to be everyday or every time we are together... but I tend to gravitate towards those people who make me laugh.. whether it's because you reference my favorite internet memes or you tube videos or because you just know how to crack a great joke.. I love to laugh, and if you make me laugh chances are I enjoy being around you.

2. The ability to listen and relate. Sometimes I need advice. Sometimes I need an answer. Sometimes I just need someone to spill to, to vent about my day. It's not always about a solution sometimes it's just about knowing you are there for me.

3. The acknowledgement and acceptance of my faith.
My faith is important to me. You don't have to share my faith or agree with it.. but I appreciate the acknowledgement of it. I don't claim to be a "perfect christian". I know that I'm not.. but that doesn't mean that I'm not one. If you eat dinner at my house.. we'll pray before eating, sometimes you'll see me reading my bible, generally I go to church twice on Sunday and once on Wednesday night. Agree or not.. at least accept that that is my lifestyle.

4. The ability to do nothing together.
Sometimes you just need that person who you can sit and do nothing with.. just for the company.

5. The understanding of that I need reassurance, encouragement and a little motivation.
I thrive on this.. the more you give the more you get from me. I doubt and I over think things and I replay things in my head.. Tell me I did a good job, thank me, compliment me if you see fit, encourage me to do better or keep going... I need it.

6. Someone I can be weird with.
I'm pretty sure that I am sometimes pretty strange.. Let's be honest.. I'm always pretty strange... but I like it that way.. When you accept that about me I'll love you all the more. :P

What does it for you?
What wins you over?
Leave me a comment and let me know! ;)
